Payment Options

Payment Options at Lakewood Veterinary Hospital

Deciding on your pet's care should be a medical conversation, not a financial one. We keep our payment options straightforward and our estimates transparent so you always know what to expect before treatment begins.

How to Pay

Payment is due at the time of service. We accept:

  • Cash
  • Debit
  • Visa
  • Mastercard

Before any procedure, our team will walk you through a written estimate covering the recommended diagnostics and treatment. If anything changes during the course of care, we will contact you before proceeding. You should never receive an invoice that surprises you.

Pet Insurance

Pet insurance is the single most effective way to protect yourself from an unexpected veterinary bill. A torn cruciate ligament, a swallowed sock, or a sudden illness can run into thousands of dollars — and those decisions are far easier to make when cost isn't the deciding factor.

The options below are the ones our clients ask about most often. We're glad to work with any licensed pet insurer you choose.

Trupanion

Trupanion covers unexpected illnesses and injuries with no payout caps, and once a condition is covered it stays covered for the rest of your pet's life.

PetSecure

Petsecure is one of Canada's longest-running pet health insurers, with several plan tiers so you can match coverage to your budget.

Pawlicy Advisor

Pawlicy Advisor is a free comparison tool rather than an insurer — it lines up plans from multiple providers side by side.

How claims work here

We do not bill insurers directly. You pay for your visit in full at checkout, then submit your claim to your provider for reimbursement. Our team will give you a detailed, itemized invoice and can provide your pet's medical records — that's typically everything an insurer asks for.

Two things worth knowing if you're considering a policy: pre-existing conditions are generally excluded by every provider, so the best time to enrol is while your pet is young and healthy. And coverage details vary considerably between plans, so read what's included before you choose.

Veterinary Financing

If your pet needs care now and the timing is difficult, financing can bridge the gap. We work with Petcard, the veterinary financing program from iFinance Canada.

iFinance

Manageable monthly payments for surgery, dental procedures, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory work — available across Canada.

Petcard spreads the cost of treatment over manageable monthly payments rather than requiring the full amount up front. Applications are processed quickly, often with a same-day decision.

You can apply directly through iFinance Canada, or ask our reception team and we'll point you in the right direction. Approval, terms, and interest rates are set by iFinance, not by our hospital.

Talk to Us

If cost is weighing on a decision about your pet's care, please tell us. There is often more than one reasonable path forward, and we would much rather have that conversation with you than have you delay treatment. Call Lakewood Veterinary Hospital at (431) 441-3810 and we'll go through the options together.
