Paisley Scott

Veterinary Technician

Hi, my name is Paisley Scott, and I am a Veterinary Technician at Lakewood Veterinary Hospital.

My career in veterinary medicine is still fairly new, but it has already been such a meaningful journey for me. Although I haven't been in the industry for a long time, I've gained a lot of experience in a short period of time, and I'm excited to keep learning, developing my skills, and growing as a veterinary professional.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

Outside of work, I enjoy playing rugby, playing video games, camping, and spending time outdoors. I love being outside and making the most of my free time, especially during the fall, which is my favourite season. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

I have a beautiful pure-white cat named Sydney who has been part of my family for about three years. She is a big snuggle bug and loves spending time with me. Cats have always had a special place in my heart, and Sydney is a big reason why I have such a soft spot for them!

Favorite Part of My Job

My favourite parts of the job are surgery and dentistry. I really enjoy the hands-on nature of these procedures and being able to play an important role in a patient's care from start to finish. I also really enjoy drawing blood and running bloodwork. I love being able to work with samples, interpret results, and help the veterinary team determine the best care for each patient.

My favourite part of veterinary medicine is being able to help both animals and their owners. There's something incredibly rewarding about watching an animal go from being really sick to becoming healthy again and knowing that I was able to be a part of that journey. Being able to make a difference in an animal's life and support their family through a difficult time is something I find really meaningful.

I also really love the team aspect of veterinary medicine. You spend so many hours working alongside the same people, and you have to be able to trust and rely on each other. Building those relationships and creating a strong bond with your team makes the job even more enjoyable for me. I love being part of a team that works together toward the same goal—helping an animal get better.

Why I Chose This Profession

I have always loved animals and have had a strong interest in them my entire life. I originally planned to pursue a different career, but a few years ago I rescued a squirrel who needed help. I bottle-fed her and cared for her as she grew, and I was able to watch her thrive over the next couple of years. That experience made me realize just how much I loved caring for animals and helping them when they needed it most. It inspired me to change my career path and pursue veterinary medicine. I knew I wanted to spend my career helping animals and making a positive difference in their lives.

Education

I started the Veterinary Technology program at Red River College in 2024, and while I was in school, I began working in a veterinary clinic in 2025. Getting hands-on experience while completing my education allowed me to apply what I was learning in school to real-life situations and helped me grow both professionally and personally.

I graduated from Red River College in 2026, and I'm really excited to continue building my career in veterinary medicine.

Professional Background

I received a faculty award in school from the staff members for my hard work.

Work History

I worked at Sherbrook Animal Hospital from June 2025 to August 2026, for just over a year, as a student veterinary technician, where I did all the things a technician does.
