Lauren Hayward

Registered Veterinary Technician

Hi, my name is Lauren Hayward, and I am an RVT at Lakewood Veterinary Hospital.

Personal Hobbies and Interests

I love to read and play board games and am a true home body so quiet nights at home with my friends, family and pets are my favourite.

I have a 6 year old border collie mix named Oakley, a 4 year old St. Bernard/Bernese Mountain Dog mix named Kipper and a 3 year old lazy orange cat named Otter.

Favorite Part of My Job

I love educating! I love teaching clients new things about their pets and showing them how to have the best relationship with their pets and their pets to have the best lives possible.

My main interests include behaviour, nutrition and internal medicine and recently feline medicine!

Why I Chose This Profession

I've always loved science and knew I wanted to go into a science forward field from a young age but it wasn't until I volunteered in behaviour classes at the Winnipeg Humane Society that I chose the Veterinary field. From volunteering in behaviour classes for both puppies and reactive dogs my interest in behaviour started to form. My interest started because I love helping animals and people and I have a passion for strengthening the human-animal bond. Being a Veterinary Technologist combines both these things perfectly!

Education

I graduated from the Red River College Polytech Veterinary Technology program in 2025, earning my Veterinary Technology Diploma after attending from 2023-2025.

I also did a practicum at Bridgwater Emergency Hospital.

Professional Background

I received the Sophie Katarynych Award from RRC Polytech for demonstrating academic success after the first year in the veterinary technologist program in 2024.

I also received the MVTA 2025 Compassionate Care Award, voted on by the 2025 graduating class.

Work History

I started working in the veterinary field at Southglen Veterinary Hospital in 2021 as a veterinary office assistant, where I worked from 2021-2022.

I also worked at Dakota Veterinary Hospital as a Veterinary Assistant from 2024-2025 and St. James Veterinary Hospital as a Registered Veterinary Technologist from 2025-2026.
