Hi, my name is Shay Pedersen, and I am a VOA at Lakewood Veterinary Hospital.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
I love to read, play video games, and spend quality time with my family and loved ones. I enjoy going fishing, and hunting, and love to be outdoors especially in the fall.
I have 1 large breed dog. He is a Golden Retriever X German Shepherd. His name is Dixon and he is 12 years old now.
I have 3 cats. All 3 boys are short haired and have all super different personalities. Meeko is about 11 years old and is a lone wolf. He only comes to you once in a while when he wants pets or attention. He loves to hunt and chase things around. Simba is 14 years old and very demanding. He loves to scream at us about 75% of his day to let us know his troubles. Chester is 2.5 years old and is known as my Velcro cat. Everywhere I go, he goes. He is mischievous, and likes to keep us on our toes. He loves bread and will steal an entire loaf if it is not hidden away.
Favorite Part of My Job
Meeting everyone's pets, hearing stories about them, and seeing pictures of them. I love seeing them go home happy and healthy again. Pets truly are amazing!
I really enjoy learning about the different cases, and the different treatments. It is cool to see how far vet med has advanced in terms of treatment options for different illnesses. Seeing a sick pet get better, and become themselves again to go home is the most rewarding feeling.
Why I Chose This Profession
As a kid I was always trying to get injured animals, or lost animals to come home with me so I could help them. Animal health has always been a passion of mine.
Education
I attended Landmark Collegiate and Red River College.

I am WHMIS certified, and CPR and Emergency First Aid certified.

I have been working in vet med for 5 years now. I have worked in small general practice for about 3.5 years, and emergency for 1.5.
