Kylann Robb
Veterinary Assistant
Hi, my name is Kylann Robb, and I am a Veterinary Assistant at Lakewood Veterinary Hospital.
Personal Hobbies and Interests
I love to embroider, sew, garden, and ride horses when I have the time to do so. I love being outside with nature tending to my garden or hanging out with my cats.
I have a menagerie of pets at home from small to big. I have 3 cats: Bailey who loves to be outdoors and we invested in a catio as she would meow for hours to go outside! Charlie who is a scaredy cat but has his moments where he will come and cuddle up for hours with me, and my newest addition Link who is a crazy kitten but has learned so much from Charlie, who we call his adoptive dad as they spend all their time together, they are truly a package deal. I also have 2 Yorkshire Terriers named Ty after the Ty beanie babies collection as hes our real life stuffed animal and Jett named after the Winnipeg Jets because my dad has been a fan since forever. They both know lots of tricks and I am hoping to do some recreational agility training with them in the near future. I have a snake named Teddy, he is a male central american boa that I've had for 5 years now, contrary to popular belief I like to think he is very cuddly and will fall asleep on me while doing mundane tasks. Lastly I have a Crested Gecko named Woobie he jumps on the glass when I come to feed him and will hang on with his tail as its semi-prehensile and it helps them grip branches and climb, or in my case usually my glasses frame or a chunk or hair!
Favorite Part of My Job
My favourite part of my job is seeing all the different cases, problem solving what the next steps should be and an effective treatment plan for that specific animal. I also love seeing all the different types of animals that are loved whether it be a snake, bird, hamster, cow, or dog.
I love cytologies as they're quite interesting to learn about and decipher. Ear cytologies are one of my absolute favourites as I love being able to help with ear infections, seeing things microscopically is a very interesting part of the field. I also love to see specialized procedures such as endoscopies, it is very cool to see how modern medicine has progressed especially in the Veterinary field.
Why I Chose This Profession
As cliche as it is I have always had an affinity for animals and always knew I wanted to build a career with it. It took me a little to narrow down my absolutes on what I truly wanted to do but as I went to my own pets' vet appointments I fell in love with the idea of helping animals, whether it be a general wellness exam or a sick appointment I knew that this is my calling. I want to be the voice for the voiceless and advocate for their well-being from large to small.
Education
I have been through University formerly getting pre-requisites for WCVM, throughout my years I found that Veterinary Technology might be a better fit for me as of now.
I attended the University of Winnipeg to get my bachelors in Biology from 2023-2025 figuring that I wanted to do Veterinary Technology in 2025. I am now currently attending Red River College for their Veterinary Technology course from Sept 2026- June 2028.
Work History
My previous job experience was at a locally owned practice as a veterinary assistant, I was there from September 2025-July 2026. I did many things ranging from taking histories, going over estimates and taking payments as well as helping the Technicians and Doctor with restraint for many procedures. I also maintained cleanliness in the clinic, from the surgery suite to the exam rooms. I sterilized instruments and wrapped surgical packs daily as well. It was a very helpful learning experience.
I have previously worked at another GP clinic working through Heartworm/Tick season as well as Volunteering at many clinics from GP, Large animal, and Exotics.
